Biography:

Careers & Achievements: Brendan has broad career experience spanning the manufacturing, retail, advertising and financial services industries with senior executive roles in HR, Sales & Marketing, Merchandise Management and as CEO.

Brendan started his working life as an apprentice Radio Tradesman at Weapons Research Establishment in South Australia. He followed this with two years National Service, including graduation from Officer Training as a 2nd Lieutenant.

In the retail industry he worked for South Australian retail icons John Martins, BiLo, and The Radio Rentals Group where he was CEO. Throughout his retail career he travelled extensively internationally, conducting business in SE Asia and regularly studying retail trends in the USA, UK and Europe.

In financial services he worked for Adelaide Bank, Heritage Building Society and First Australian Building Society - the latter two being Queensland based.  He has first-hand experience in merging three geographically dispersed financial institutions into a single entity.

Brendan's last industry role was CEO of a small, high-tech loudspeaker and audio equipment company that conducted its own R&D, manufacturing and direct distribution of products to a national market.

His career is underscored with change management and people and team development.

In recent years Brendan ran his own business consultancy, working mainly on strategic reviews and projects at the business or key business unit level, often followed by mentoring of executives through the implementation phase of a new strategic initiative.

Brendan is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has served on not-for-profit Boards.

He has been Chair of TECR 210 since 2007 and TEC 49 since 2009.

Personal: Brendan has a range of interests to keep him actively learning and developing, including growing and hybridising orchids, bushwalking, working with timber, travel and bike riding. He and Vicki, his wife of 40+ years, have two children and five grandchildren, all of whom seem well adjusted and normal - which is probably his greatest achievement.
