Career & Achievements: John has broad experience in a number of industries, in various countries. He held a variety of positions including marketing, production, lecturing, research, international business development and general management.
In 1972 John commenced employment with the New Zealand Dairy Board, dealing with multinationals worldwide and exporting to most continents. After four years he transferred to the London office to broaden the company's product base from cheese and butter.
At the conclusion of the project he returned to New Zealand for a short period in the Pharmaceutical industry before moving to Australia in 1981. Returning to the food industry he became Marketing Manager for Henry Jones IXL Food Group (later to become Elders IXL) before transferring to CUB Queensland.
In 1986 John joined Defiance Mills firstly as National Marketing Manager, Strategy, then held a number of General Management positions concluding in General Manager of Defiance International Pty Ltd. In this position he established marketing offices in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Tokyo and Manila plus a joint venture operation in Malaysia. With the takeover of Defiance in 1997, John left to establish his own business consulting in international business and strategic management to a range of medium size organisations and lectured to post-graduate students at The University of Queensland. John is a Company Director on a number of Boards and continues to consult, as well as run 2 TEC groups and a KEY group. John began as a TEC Chair in 1998.
Education & Associations: John is a member of The Institute of Company Directors. He has a Degree qualification in Agricultural Science and an MBA from the University of Queensland.
Personal: John has two children and is a keen traveller. He is also a swimmer and plays the occasional game of golf.
