Career & Achievements: Peer Becker is a Senior Executive from the Petrochemicals Industry, having enjoyed a successful career with the Shell Group for over 20 years, which has seen him gain extensive international experience. Peer also has a background in Mathematics, Economics and Engineering and prior to joining Shell was an academic in Universities in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Switzerland, specialising in mathematically-applied business and economic analysis.
Over the span of his career Peer has managed a range of both small and large businesses. He has managed to establish specific capabilities in strategy development and implementation, organisational and business process change, and project development and implementation.
Peer joined Shell Australia in Melbourne where, as a Senior Executive, he became involved in corporate planning, government liaison, and managed Shell's solvents business in Australia. Peer's success at Shell Australia paved the way for a transfer to Shell International where he spent three years in London developing investment projects in various countries for Shell's global epoxy resins business.
Peer was later based in Hong Kong to lead Shell Chemicals marketing and investments programmes in China. In this role he set up numerous marketing offices and delivered the first two Shell Chemicals joint ventures in China. Among the many challenges Peer faced in this position, the largest to overcome was to be able to manage various small offices in remote locations staffed by young inexperienced workers, and then integrate them into global Shell without suffocating local initiatives. Further to this, Peer faced the challenge of being able to develop small stand-alone Chinese joint ventures to modern western standards of responsible operational and marketing performance.
During the nine years Peer was in Hong Kong, he was elevated to the position of Shell Chemicals Vice President for North East Asia. In this role Peer combined a number of fragmented Shell companies from various countries and realigned them into a new regional business centre incorporating new best-practice processes, new organisations and a new culture. Peer was appointed Director of several Shell Group companies in Asia and participated in regional management across the Group's various businesses.
Peer has been a TEC Chair since 2003.
