Biography:

Career & Achievements: Reuben grew up on his family's grazing property in southern NSW and after completing a degree in veterinary science and postgraduate training, became a partner in a mixed veterinary practice in New Zealand.

Apart from his academic contributions, Reuben has also been involved in key roles in leadership and business development. Reuben has had a number of roles in R&D management, for the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation and Meat and Livestock Australia.  He was Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney from 1998 to 2003 where he pioneered a business focused approach to management of the Faculty. He led major changes in planning, curriculum design, management of the university veterinary hospitals and fundraising.

As a member of TEC-1 since 1999, he gained substantial benefit and support from TEC colleagues in the application of business strategies. From 2003 to 2006 he was General Manager of on-farm R&D for Meat and Livestock Australia, where he was responsible for a $40 million annual budget.

Currently, Reuben is a partner in his family's grazing enterprise in the Snowy Mountains and is the Chairperson of the Australian and New Zealand Veterinary Schools Accreditation Advisory Committee, a group that oversees the accreditation of veterinary.

Reuben has been Chair of TEC 1 since 2007.

Education & Associations: He was appointed as a Lecturer in Large Animal Surgery at the University of Sydney Veterinary School in 1977 and after completing a PhD degree was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (London), for his research work on endurance exercise in horses. He developed a large research team with postgraduate students and was recognised as one of the pioneers of the science of equine exercise physiology. He was Chairperson of the International Committee on Equine Exercise Physiology and was awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Science degree by the University of Sydney for his distinguished contribution to the field of exercise physiology in horses. He is an Emeritus Professor of the University of Sydney.

Publications & Contributions: Reuben has published more than 200 scientific papers and a number of best-selling veterinary textbooks, including The Athletic Horse and Manual of Equine Practice.

Personal: Other interests include music, wine and spiritual development.
