Biography:

Ray has 40 years experience in civil engineering construction, contracting and related consulting and service industries including 25 years as a Chief Executive Officer in Australia and overseas.

Ray is currently President of the Australian Road Forum which is the peak body for the road transport sector in Australia. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of JFTA Pty Ltd a leading company providing specialised design, construction, management, maintenance and divestment of petrochemical storage and handling facilities together with environmental services to the petrochemical industry.

Ray was the Chief Executive, for a period of eight years until 2003, of Emoleum, a joint-venture between Exxon Mobil and Rinker that was the leading road surfacing, construction and maintenance organisation in Australia.

Prior to this Ray held chief executive roles in a number of large and small enterprises involved in the road construction, maintenance and related service industries including a period of four years in Indonesia as Managing Director of a joint-venture specialising in civil engineering, geotechnical and foundation engineering contracting.

Ray has a successful track record leading cultural change in organisations, through the whole range of business stages from the start up, to rapid growth phase, to dramatic downsizing and restructuring.

Described as "an empowering leader", "skilled leader coach", "strategic to the bone", "pragmatic, adaptable and entrepreneurial" and with a "strong operational focus", Ray is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Member of the Institute of Engineers Australia and a Chartered Professional Engineer.

Ray has been Chair of TEC 23 since 2008.
