Richard held a number of leadership positions within Fletcher Challenge Limited between 1981 and 1997 - these roles were based within the building related activities of the group.
In 1998, Richard was appointed as CEO of Infrastructure Auckland, which was established from the remnants of the Auckland Regional Services Trust, with the primary purpose of distributing the proceeds (both capital and revenue) of a portfolio of investments to transport and stormwater capital projects in the Auckland region by way of grants. The other key activity was to manage the portfolio of equities and treasury assets valued at $1.3 billion. These investments included Americas Cup Village Limited (ACVL), Northern Disposals System Limited (NDSL), Ports of Auckland Limited, and a treasury portfolio of over $400 million.
In 2004, Richard established and managed a management consulting group with another ex-employee of Infrastructure Auckland. The company advises on a range of management issues and has particular expertise in project evaluation.
Richard will be launching TEC 705 in Auckland in 2009.
